Tonbridge Angels welcomed Larry McAvoy to the Yeomans Community Stadium where he will joined his ex-Millwall counterpart Alan Dunne as part of the management team.
Larry came to Tonbridge having been a youth coach at Millwall for over 20 years. He coached across various youth levels before stepping into the role of Under-18’s manager alongside Chris Perry in 2017.
Larry’s success with Millwall can be measured both in terms of club honours and the players that have been produced to go into either the Lions’ senior squads or gone on to forge careers elsewhere.
Under his guidance, Millwall’s Under-18’s reached the FA Youth Cup Semi-Final in 2024, alongfside winning the Professional Development League and Premier League Cup.
In the present Millwall senior squad are Danny McNamara and Billy Mitchell whilst Romain Esse, who moved to Crystal Palace in the January transfer window for a multi-million pound fee, all benefited from McAvoy’s guidance in their formative years.Â
George Alexander, Abdul Abdulmalik, Jayden Davis and Chi Ezennolim, players the Angels have faced in National League South, notwithstanding our own Alfie Allen and Arthur Penney, in recent times are all graduates of Larry’s teams.
