Kent Youth League summary

It was a cup weekend for the Kent Youth League sides with the Under-14’s and 15’s each making progress.

It was the quarter final stage for the U15’s at Kings Hill as James Ward reports;

The U15’s bounced back to winning ways after suffering their first defeat as a team two weeks ago, which saw us exit the Kent County Cup. This weekend, the boys produced a strong performance to book our place in the Kent Youth League Cup semi-final with an impressive display against a good footballing side, Kings Hill.

Despite going 1-0 down inside the first two minutes, the boys showed real character, continued to dominate possession, and created chance after chance.

Going in 2-1 up at half-time, we knew it was our game to lose, and three second-half goals sealed a deserved 5-1 victory.

We now turn our focus to a London County Cup fixture on Saturday and a tough league game ahead this weekend.

The U14’s progressed to the quarter-finals of the Kent County Cup with a home win over Chislehurst Glebe as Oliver Stell reports;

The U14’s continued their quest for Kent County Cup glory with a 3-1 win over Chislehurst Glebe to move into the quarter finals.

The game started off very cagey, with both teams not finding the last pass in the final third. As Angels started to build up the majority of possession, Glebe caught the Angels in transition and slotted home to take a 1-0 lead.

The Angels reaction was pleasing to see and within five minutes of going behind, Max Carrington pounced on a loose pass and slotted home the equaliser.

As the first half was coming to its conclusion, some great pressing work forced a corner for the Angels. Up stepped Max Carrington to score directly from the corner and give the Angels a deserved lead heading into the break.

The second half saw a change in formation by Glebe as they decided to chase the game. This left the Glebe defence open and with 10 minutes left of the game Jimi Chadwick played a cute through ball to put Jack Murray through on goal to score a cracker back across the goalkeeper.

A much better Tonbridge performance will breed confidence into the lads as they head into their last game before the Christmas break. Man of the Match went to Max Carrington for an unbelievable performance.

Unfortunately the U13’s could not make it a clean sweep of cup victories as they bowed out of the County Cup at the hands of Unique as Olly Pantrey reports:

The U13’s fell to a 0-2 defeat against Unique FA in the Kent County Cup, despite producing another excellent performance in general. Having faced the opposition earlier in the season, the team were prepared for a direct approach and managed it well, winning first and second balls and playing through the thirds with confidence. Several excellent chances were created through penetrative runs in wide areas, including a disallowed goal that post-match footage showed should have stood.

After a strong first half the side conceded early in the second following over-commitment out wide, before a second defensive error left the deficit too large to chase. Despite this, the team continued to create opportunities but struggled with decision-making and composure in front of goal. The overall performance was encouraging, but the lack of cutting edge proved decisive in ending their cup run.
